Pitfalls in the Detection of Hearing Loss via Otoacoustic Emissions

نویسندگان

چکیده

Otoacoustic emissions (OAEs) are currently used as a valuable audiological test or hearing screening tool. There many commercially available OAE recording systems that both for clinical practice and research. However, there is little information in the literature comparing their performance detecting loss. The purpose of this prospective, nonrandomized, controlled study was to evaluate obtained from recent older versions Otometrics Accuscreen device comparison with Otodynamics ILO-292 system, which has been gold standard. Testing included otoscopic assessment, pure tone audiometry, tympanometry, transiently evoked (TEOAE) recordings. about 77% agreement between two device. Agreement devices ILO approximately 70% old 80% new. newer version seems perform better than old, being more consistent reference system audiometry profiles tested subjects. In order set robust standards evaluation analysis, additional studies different needed.

Otoacoustic Emissions in Sudden Sensorineural Hearing Loss: Changes of Measures with Treatment

Introduction: To identify changes in OAEs parameters in treatment course of idiopathic sudden sensorineural hearing loss (iSSNHL). Materials and Methods: In aprospective studyfromAugust 2005 to January 2009, 26 patients with iSSNHL underwent conventional audiometry/tympanometry and two types of OAEs (TEOAEs and DPOAEs) before and after the completion of standard drug therapy. The changes in p...

Detection of Hearing Loss in Audiological Frequencies from Transient Evoked Otoacoustic Emissions

Transient evoked otoacoustic emissions (TEOAEs) have been analyzed for objective assessment of hearing function and monitoring of the influence of noise exposure and ototoxic drugs. This paper presents a novel application of the Hilbert–Huang transform (HHT) for detection and time-frequency mapping of TEOAEs. Since the HHT does not distinguish between signal and noise, it is combined with ensem...

Comparison of otoacoustic emissions in patients with tinnitus having normal hearing versus mild hearing loss.

INTRODUCTION Tinnitus is an auditory sensation whose source comes from external stimulus to the body. All studies that can help people with this disorder are very imperative. OBJECTIVE This study investigates the cochlear function in patients with tinnitus, using Distortion Products Otoacoustic Emissions (DPOAE). MATERIAL AND METHODS Ears where the subjects referred to feel the tinnitus wer...

Cochlear Hearing Loss Detection System Based on Transient Evoked Otoacoustic Emissions

The aim of this paper is to evaluate the application of the discrete wavelet transform (DWT) and support vector machines (SVM) to transient evoked otoacoustic emissions (TEOAE) in order to achieve a detection of frequency-specific hearing loss (HL). We introduce a system to determine detection rates between groups of persons with normal hearing, high frequency hearing loss, and pantonal hearing...

[Otoacoustic emissions in hearing screening in children].

BACKGROUND/AIM Prevention of the consequences of hearing loss can be accomplished by early hearing screening of the cochlear function in newborus, but also with continuous hearing screening in the early childhood. The aim of this study was to investigate the reliability and feasibility of otoacoustic emissions (OAE) in hearing screening in children, evaluate the frequency and type of hearing lo...
